Mike received a Doctorate in Solid State Physics from the University of Stuttgart in 1987 for work done at the Max-Planck- Institute for Solid State Research, and subsequently took a Post-Doc position at Bell Labs in New Jersey.
Following the Post-Doc, Mike accepted a position as Senior Scientist at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado in the Materials Characterization Department.
In 1995, Mike set up Soft-Imaging Software Corp., a daughter of Soft-Imaging Software GmbH in Germany. The company was involved with digital image acquisition and processing for light and electron microscopes, and was eventually sold to Olympus America. Mike continued to serve the Electron Miroscopy Market with ResAlta Research Technologies, a company he founded in Colorado.
In 2011, Mike also set up the US Branch for XIMEA (XIMEA Corp.) in Colorado, which he continues to lead today.
