Don Berchoff

TruWeather Solutions LLC

Don Berchoff is a co-founder and CEO of TruWeather Solutions. Don retired from the Air Force in 2008 after a 24-year distinguished career. He served as the National Weather Service Director for Science and Technology from 2008-2012 where he executed a $130 million annual budget to build and field advanced weather systems. In 2012, he joined Unisys Corporation as Vice President of the Weather Business before starting TruWeather Solutions in 2015. Don has provided aviation weather services nearly everywhere across the globe, including as an airborne meteorologist with over 300 flight hours and for President George H.W. Bush. He built and led an aviation weather center at Scott AFB, IL where he directed weather operations for 500,000 missions without a weather mishap. At Scott, he developed an award-winning aviation weather risk management process for the Tanker Airlift Control Center. That risk management innovation was his inspiration for starting TruWeather in 2015 once the technology was available to scale and automate the process. A National War College graduate, Don served as the base commander for Manas Air Base, Kyrgyzstan from 2007-2008, an expeditionary staging base responsible for moving people, cargo and fuel into Afghanistan. Don has deep expertise identifying, acquiring and integrating weather observation data from a variety of sources and synthesizing that data into simple operational views. Don’s energy is focused on bringing the TruFlite product to market in 2018 to close the UAS micro-weather gap and turn complex data into actionable insight to help smart operators make smart decisions.
