Robert Hastie

Dr. Robert “Bob” Hastie graduated from Grove City College with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He completed an in-resident Master of Science degree in Astronautical Engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) and a doctorate degree in Engineering Mechanics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VA Tech). Dr. Hastie technical experience includes fatigue and fracture analysis of advanced materials, advanced dynamics, finite element analysis, composite materials, and weapon system design. He has taught at the Air Force Academy where he led the Systems Engineering and Mechanical Engineering divisions and served as the Deputy Department Head of the Engineering Mechanics Department. Dr. Hastie was assigned to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency in 1998 and served as deputy and technology manager for the Hard Target Defeat (HTD) Program and as the Military Assistance to the Director of DTRA. Following his retirement from the Air Force in 2001, Dr. Hastie worked as a contractor for Northrop Grumman. Dr. Hastie returned to DTRA in 2003 and led DTRA’s Massive Ordnance Penetrator Technology Demonstration and served as the Technical Director in the Weapons and Capabilities Office at the DTRA remote operating site located at Eglin AFB FL. In 2015, Dr. Hastie was selected as a member of DTRA’s inaugural class of Distinguished Technical Fellows. In 2017, Dr Hastie was selected to serve as Chief of the Advanced Research Division and Senior Technical Advisor for the Counter WMD Technologies Department responsible overseeing the technical direction of the department’s $230M of programs.
