Johnny Young

Assistant Professor, Program Chair- Unmanned Aircraft Systems
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Prescott


Johnny Young has a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Administration from Utah Valley University and a Masters in Aeronautical Science specializing in Unmanned Aerospace Systems from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Johnny is a Gold Seal Certified Flight Instructor and Commercial Pilot. During his undergraduate degree program, he operated a fixed base operation (FBO) in Hood River, OR. There he specialized in tail-wheel instruction as well as primary flight instruction.
Prior to joining Embry Riddle as a full-time professor, Johnny worked as a Department of Defense (DoD) contractor where he flew both manned and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) such as the Predator A and Scan Eagle. Currently, he is the Program Chair for the UAS degree and teaches the following classes: Unmanned Sensing Systems, UAS Simulations, FAA Remote Pilot Ground School, and UAS Mission Execution.
Additionally, Johnny works as a consultant with UAS industry leaders such as Hood Tech. In his spare time, he volunteers as an Assistant Scout Master and enjoys backcountry flying and teaching tail-wheel courses.
Johnny is married to Tara Young and they have three boys ages 8, 6, and 3.
