Deployable, Portable Fiber Optic Storage Reels
Timbercon deployable reels offer a number of advantages for applications requiring long fiber runs, temporary connections, or easy storage and transportation of long, bulky cable assemblies. Developed to work in conjunction with tactical, multi-fiber, and outside plant type assemblies, Timbercon’s deployable reels utilize rugged metal construction with a number of user accessible features to facilitate the rapid deployment or recoil of any fiber optic cable assembly.
Timbercon deployable reels are heavy-duty, hardwearing, and provide connector and cable protection when they are not in use. The use of deployable reels also prevents handling damage and allows for cable testing to be done on the reel prior to installation.
Deployable reels are available in multiple sizes, configurations, and mount types to suit a wide variety of applications and cable assembly types. For application specific requirements, Timbercon customized deployable reels provide an ideal, project-specific solution.
Custom overmolding from Timbercon provides a ruggedized solution to the need for strong transitions required in certain projects. Heat shrink transitions are often the most vulnerable segments of a fiber optic connection, but Timbercon overmold transitions can strengthen that connection. As one solid piece of equipment, molded plastic is far stronger than conventional heat shrink transitions. When rugged projects require specific configurations of cable to connect to a device, Timbercon overmold transitions provide a solid connection between your devices.
Available with OM2, OM3, OM4 or single mode fiber, Timbercon uses only the highest quality components to design and manufacture breakout cables to your specification. You define length, connectors and breakout configurations, or we will help design it for you.
In addition to offering breakout styles from 900µm to 3.0mm fiber cable outer diameter (OD), we also offer different transition options based on your mounting and space requirements. Timbercon's custom overmold design allows us to print your logo on the transition and produce the most rugged cable assemblies in the industry.

Custom Transition Shapes
Timbercon offers both MIL-C-83522 and COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf) versions of ST connectors for harsh environment applications. These connectors are designed to provide the best possible optical performance in applications with severe environmental conditions.
Various connectors and adapter options are available for the MIL COTS ST to meet a broad range of needs and requirements. The M83522 connector is qualified for military applications and features a higher spring force than commercial ST connectors, allowing it to meet the shock requirements of MIL-C-83522.
COTS ST connectors provide the same robustness with a spring force more consistent with commercial ST connectors, enabling them to connect effectively with other ST connectors and ancillary electronics.
As an industry standard fiber optic interconnect for shipboard and ship-to-shore uses, the Timbercon MIL-PRF-28876 has become the universal standard connector for Navy applications. The MIL-PRF-28876 are constructed out of aluminum alloy with double start threads for extra durability in rough environments. This connector meets the U.S. Navy's stringent MIL-S-901 Grade A Medium shock requirement.
The MIL-PRF-28876 is available in plug, wall-mount receptacles, and jam-nut mounted receptacles in a full range of standard insert arrangements. This connector uses the MIL-T-29504 /14 and /15 sealed termini which Timbercon terminates in our factory using custom, automatic polishing fixtures.
Timbercon utilizes high-reliability fiber optic connectors, such as the MIL-PRF-28876, to produce precision alignment of optical fibers. Connectors with polarization keys and keyways are manufactured to exacting tolerances to reduce radial misalignment and insertion loss. Timbercon military specific connectors also incorporate a bottoming surface to ensure reliable shell-to-shell connection. This attribute ensures that the linear dimensional relationship of the contact termini are the same.
