  • Navy is Latest to Join Army Robotics Program, Along with US Air Force and Marine Corps; New Awards Bring Total Recent Orders to Nearly 500Mid-SizedRobotsfromUS Armed Services

    ARLINGTON, Va., June 9, 2020 ― FLIR Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLIR) announced that the United States (U.S.)Army and Navy have ordered in total more than 160of the company’s Centaur™ unmanned ground vehicles(UGV), plus related spares and accessories. The two contracts, totaling $23.5million, are being sourced through the Army’s Man Transportable Robotic System Increment II (MTRS Inc II) program.

    Since March, FLIR has announced orders totaling more than$65 million for nearly 500 Centaur UGVs from the United States Air Force, Marine Corps, and now Navy. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)teams will use the FLIR Centaur to assist in disarming improvised explosive devices, unexploded ordnance, and similar hazardous tasks. Operators can quickly attach different sensors and payloads to the robot to support other functions, including chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) missions.

    “With the Navy joining the MTRS Inc II program, it means that all U.S. military forces will now use a common, medium-sized robotic platform for EOD and CBRN operations,” said Roger Wells, VP and general manager of the Unmanned Systems & Integrated Solutions business at FLIR. “In an era of increased joint service operations in combat zones worldwide, having common equipment across EOD units can support more standardized tactics and techniques, plus add new efficiencies in sustainment and training for years to come.

    “Our team is incredibly proud to know all four branches of America’s armed services have chosen Centaur as their mid-sized EOD robot. And, more importantly, that our technology is helping so many war fighters keep out of harm’s way,” Wells added.

    In 2017, the U.S. Army selected Endeavor Robotics, acquired last year by FLIR, as its medium-sized robot provider for MTRS Inc II. The company designed Centaur as its MTRS solution. FLIR is delivering robots to the Army under that multi-year program of record, which upon award was valued at more than$150million, including options. These latest orders fall under the current ceiling.

    Centaur is a medium-sized UGV that provides a standoff capability to detect, confirm, identify, and dispose of hazards. Weighing roughly 160 pounds, the open-architecture robot features an advanced EO/IR camera suite, a manipulator arm that reaches over six feet, and the ability to climb stairs. Modular payloads can be used for CBRNE detection and other missions.

  • Advanced sUAS Aircraft Features Multi-mission Capabilities Often Found Only on Larger Drones

    ARLINGTON, Va., June 30, 2020 ― FLIR Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLIR) announced it has been awarded a $10million contract to deliver dozens of its SkyRaider™ Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to the United States (U.S.) Marine Corps.

    Developed for U.S. defense and federal government customers, the FLIR R80D SkyRaider is the company’s most advanced military UAS. The aircraft’s long-range, high-resolution EO/IR imaging sensors provide day and night situational awareness, while the platform can carry and deliver external loads up to 4.4 pounds for forward resupply, asset extraction, and other specialized missions. SkyRaider also features some of the most powerful embedded AI processing available on a small UAS (sUAS) system.

    ARLINGTON, Va., July 16, 2020 – FLIR Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLIR) today announced FLIR Hadron™, the industry’s first dual sensor module for drone, robotic, and imaging original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Designed to help reduce development costs and improve time-to-market, the lightweight, low power, and compact form factor includes a 12-megapixel visible camera paired with the FLIR Boson® 320x240 resolution thermal camera with up to a 60-hertz framerate.

    Hadron Development with Vantage Robotics and Teal Drones
    As part of the Hadron development process, FLIR worked closely with drone manufacturers Vantage Robotics and Teal Drones, to perfect the module for use on lightweight drone airframes.
    Vantage Robotics integrated Hadron into its micro-gimbal platform featuring its proprietary stabilization technology, offering a dual-sensor, OEM solution for existing UAS airframes and potentially other robotic platforms.

  • Award Augments Army’s $40 Million Initial Order for Black Hornets in Early 2019
    ARLINGTON, Va., May 7, 2020 ― FLIR Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLIR) announced it has won an additional$20.6million contract from the U.S. Army to deliver its FLIR Black Hornet®3 Personal Reconnaissance Systems (PRS). The advanced nano-unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will support platoon-and small unit-level surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities as part of the Army’s Soldier Borne Sensor (SBS) program. 
    In January 2019, the U.S. Army awarded FLIR an initial$39.7 million contract for Black Hornet3’sto support the SBS program. The company is currently delivering those systems for fielding across the force. 
    Extremely light, nearly silent, and with a flight time up to 25 minutes, the combat-proven, pocket-sized Black Hornet PRS transmits live video and HD still images back to the operator. Its information feed provides soldiers with immediate covert situational awareness to help them perform missions more effectively. FLIR has delivered more than12,000 Black Hornet nano-UAVs to defense and security forces worldwide.
