  • SWaP-optimized Harrier Now Shipping

    (Tualatin, OR – July 7, 2020) VersaLogic Corp., the embedded industry's most trusted computer company, has released a new SWaP-optimized embedded computer with error correcting (ECC) memory.

    Named “Harrier”, this new embedded computer features Intel®’s latest 5th generation Apollo Lake Atom™ processors with error-correcting memory. The Harrier also includes a TPM 2.0 security chip, on-board power regulation, USB and Ethernet I/O ports, and Mini PCIe expansion sockets.  The soldered-on ECC RAM enhances both the reliability and ruggedness of the product.

    Aiming high
    “With its ECC memory, the Harrier is ideal in environments where memory errors may occur due to cosmic ray interactions, which increase dramatically at altitude,” said Len Crane, VersaLogic President.  “Applications such as High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) UAVs and High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (HAPS) systems present a considerable challenge related to memory errors. The Harrier is available with up to 8 GB of Error Correcting Code (ECC) memory to address this risk in any critical application.”

    Small and tough
    Within its 55 x 95 x 29 mm package and low power consumption, the Harrier is sized for SWaP applications such as in unmanned vehicles on land, underwater, or in the air. The Harrier is designed and tested for full industrial temperature (-40º to +85ºC) operation and meets MIL-STD-202H specifications for shock and vibration. In addition, the on-board power regulation ensures reliable operation with fluctuating or noisy power sources.

    Security
    The built-in TPM 2.0 security chip provides hardware-level security for applications that require secure log-ins, encrypted data storage, protected files, etc.

    Connectivity
    On-board I/O includes dual Gigabit Ethernet, one USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0 ports, and two serial ports. A SATA interface, eMMC Flash, mSATA slot, and a microSD socket provide a range of data storage options. Dual Mini PCIe sockets accommodate plug-in A/D, Wi-Fi modems, GPS receivers, MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, FireWire, CAN, and other mini cards.

    Long-term availability
    Like other VersaLogic products, the Harrier is designed from the ground up for long-term availability (10+ year typical production lifecycle).

    Customization
    Customization services to help customers create unique solutions will be available for the Harrier, even in low OEM quantities. Customization options include conformal coating, revision locks, custom labeling, customized testing and screening, etc.

  • Grizzly server-class computers now shipping

    (Tualatin, OR – February 5, 2020) – VersaLogic Corp., the embedded industry's most trusted computer company, has announced a new server-class product in a compact 110 x 155 x 50 mm package.

    Named “Grizzly”, the new embedded server product features an Intel 16-core processor, up to 128 GB of ECC RAM, high speed 10 Gigabit Ethernet channels, and operation over the full -40º to +85ºC industrial temperature range.  This rugged, compact server product was designed to address the increasing need for server-class products in hostile environments.

    Serving the Edge
    “When performance and reliability are hard requirements, VersaLogic’s new Grizzly enables high-speed processing and data collection outside the rack and out to the edge, even in harsh environments. From smart-grid, and smart-city applications, to transportation, security and defense operations, VersaLogic’s new rugged and temperature-tolerant, server is the answer,” said Bruce McKinnon, Chief Operating Officer VersaLogic Corp.

    Designed and tested for full industrial temperature operation (-40º to +85ºC), as well as MIL-STD-202H for high impact and vibration, the Grizzly is the first 16-core embedded computer to offer this much performance in a compact, rugged package.

    Connectivity
    The Grizzly includes two SFP+ interface connectors which support high-speed 10 Gigabit Ethernet.  They accept plug-in adaptors for copper connections, short-reach fiber, and long-reach fiber connections.  The Grizzly also includes POE Gigabit Ethernet ports, USB 3.0, digital I/O, and SATA 3 ports. Two mini-PCIe sockets support plug-in on-board expansion devices, such as GPS modules.

    Server Class
    Within its 110 x 155 x 50 mm package, the Grizzly supports up to 128 GB of error correcting memory. This significant memory capacity simplifies running larger virtual machines and fully leveraging all 16 cores. The error correcting memory guards against single bit memory errors, which can occur in outer space and high-altitude applications. IPMI out-of-band board management is also supported. On-board data storage is enabled by an M.2 socket that supports up to 2 TB of high-speed solid state storage.

    Long-term Availability
    Like other VersaLogic products, the Grizzly is designed from the ground up for long-term availability (10+ year typical production lifecycle).

  • The Harrier is an extremely small and rugged SWaP-optimized embedded computer. It has been engineered and tested to meet the industries’ need for smaller, lighter, and lower power embedded systems. Slightly larger than a credit card and one inch thick, the Harrier is a member of VersaLogic’s small, ultra-rugged embedded x86 computers. Equipped with a powerful dual- or quad-core Intel “Apollo Lake” processor and soldered-on ECC RAM, the Harrier is designed to withstand extreme temperature, impact, and vibration. Up to 8 GB of soldered-on Error Correcting Code (ECC) memory is available for high-reliability applications.   • The Grizzly is a rugged embedded server unit (ESU) featuring an Intel 16-core processor, full -40°C to +85°C operation, two 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ ports, four Gigabit Ethernet ports, up to 128 GB of ECC memory and Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI 2.0) functionality. This combination makes it ideal for edge server and HPEC applications requiring very high performance processing and high data bandwidth. Additionally, two Mini PCIe sockets and a PCIe x4 M.2 site provide for on-board I/O expansion and high speed / high-capacity on-board storage. The Grizzly also contains additional interfaces including USB, serial and digital I/O, and SATA. The high performance capability of the Grizzly makes it ideal for situations where data gathering and processing need to be kept local for security or latency reasons, or to provide local cloud capability. A 16-core processor coupled with up to 128 GB of ECC memory supports the use of hypervisors for running of virtual machines.
