Automation of Unmanned Systems Data Acquisition

Drones are perceived as autonomous, but today, they are nowhere nearly as autonomous as we need them to be to accelerate the growth of the commercial drone market. In a nutshell, the reason is this: assets and their environments are complex and hence data capture around them is a complex task. At the same time the data workflow to which the captured data flows are long, complex and very sensitive to data quality. Consequently, the only solution to scaling drone workflows around complex assets is to take data capture automation seriously. In this presentation I will a) present the automation problem from the perspective of various inspection industries, b) explain why model and environment data can serve as the "maps" we need to enable automating data acquisition, c) discuss existing hardware limitations and what efforts are made to lift them and d) explain how enterprises can benefit from integrating data acquisition automation software into their asset management systems.
