Dr. Kamel Saidi is the leader of the Sensing and Perception Systems Group in the Intelligent Systems Division (ISD) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Dr. Saidi works on the development of metrics, test methods and ground-truth systems for evaluating the performance of robot perception, safety, dexterity, mapping and autonomy for industrial as well as emergency response applications. In addition, he is involved in research to develop performance evaluation methods, metrics, and facilities for 3D Imaging Systems (which include LiDAR or laser scanners). Dr. Saidi has also conducted research in construction automation and robotics for 10 years prior to shifting his focus to industrial and emergency response applications. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering as well as Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin.
