Profile
Ross S. Eaton is a Principal Scientist and Director of Marine Systems in the Sensing, Perception, and Applied Robotics division at Charles River Analytics. He performs research into several areas of computer vision, including hardware-accelerated object detection, classification, and tracking, GPS-denied localization, and automatic image quality assessment and enhancement. Currently, Mr. Eaton is leading our maritime smart camera product development, as well as several projects focused on surface situational awareness. His projects on ship detection and classification support COLREGS compliance on unmanned surface vessels, and his work on multi-modal whale detection supports conservation efforts. As Director of Marine Systems, Mr. Eaton also leads business development and execution efforts in the maritime domain. He coordinates customer and industry interactions among a team of principal investigators, builds strategic partnerships to pursue new opportunities, and facilitates communication to identify synergies across dozens of programs, scientists, and engineers. While working for General Dynamics Robotic Systems, Mr. Eaton investigated human and vehicle detection in IR imagery as well as moving object detection from a moving platform, and before joining Charles River Analytics, Mr. Eaton worked as a video game programmer for Mad Doc Software. As an undergraduate at Yale University, Mr. Eaton’s senior thesis focused on developing a video surveillance system for tracking subjects in psychology experiments.
