Dr. Fabrice Kunzi leads the Detect and Avoid group for the Aircraft Systems business unit of General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI). Prior to joining GA-ASI in 2015, Dr. Kunzi was Acting CEO and CTO of Panoptes Systems Corporation (a spin-off from Aurora Flight Sciences), which developed the first commercially available obstacle avoidance system for small unmanned aircraft systems (aircraft lighter than 55 pounds).
Fabrice’s primary interests are in the design and operation of air transportation systems, aircraft operations, and the interactions between such systems and their human operators. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of North Dakota and holds both Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Aeronautical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He also has an FAA Commercial Pilot’s License with an IFR and Multi-Engine Rating, as well as a Swiss Private Pilot’s License.
