Profile
Carl commenced his policing career with the Royal New Zealand Military Police (RNZMP) in 1994 and was then recruited into the New Zealand Police in 1996. Carl moved to Australia in 2004 joining the Queensland Police Service. Carl has over 25 years operational experience in policing and is currently employed as a senior crash investigator with the Forensic Crash Unit (FCU) based in Brisbane. The FCU is responsible for investigating all serious injury and fatal traffic crashes in the State of Queensland. The FCU also investigates all transport related fatalities involving commercial transport, aircraft and rail. All workplace fatalities and other transport incidents where there is evidence of criminal negligence or the investigation requires specialist assistance are also FCU responsibilities. Carl is the project lead and coordinator for the FCU aerial mapping project which utilises the Phantom 4 RTK remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) and Pix4D software to provide quick clearance of incident scenes while maintaining evidential integrity. Queensland Police were the first Australian law enforcement agency to effectively implement RPAS for forensic mapping. The FCU currently operates nine P4RTKs with sixteen qualified remote pilots. Carl is a qualified Police motorcycle rider and rides a Police motorcycle custom fitted with a P4RTK on board, a world first.
