Profile
Dr. Mark P. DeAngelo is an aerospace engineer and new technology leader for SAE International. During his tenure, his small aerospace standards team has grown 35 new technical committees attracting over 3500 new participants. Today, some of his focus areas are driving the standardization of emerging technologies, electric aircraft, general aviation aircraft, and unmanned aircraft systems. Additional contributions include co-chairing the Airworthiness Group of the ANSI UAS Standards Collaborative Roadmap, and participating on numerous aerospace standards-developing committees, FAA Rulemaking Committees, the NASA Transformative Vertical Flight, NASA AAM, and many speaking roles at aerospace conferences and workshops. He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. degree in aerospace engineering. Research topics included optimal search techniques and aircraft localization without GPS using image-based learned object detectors, both of which utilized various unmanned aircraft platforms. He is interested in both commercial and general aviation and holds a private pilot certificate. Aside from aviation, one of his favorite interests include photography with publication in the Smithsonian Air & Space Magazine, Miami New Times, and awards from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Point Park University.
