  • AEP - A proud partner in Choctaw Nation FAA IPP
In 2018 & 2019, Public Service Company of Oklahoma collaborated with The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and AiRXOS to conduct two advanced drone operations projects to perform a safe, automated aerial inspection of PSO transmission lines in SE Oklahoma....

  • This effort was part of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) UAS Integration Pilot Program that tested the use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS or drones) for line inspections and for emergency response/storm damage assessment. The first series of tests involved visual observers (VLOS), and the second series incorporated Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) testing.

This program provides an opportunity for state, local and tribal governments to partner with private sector entities to foster a meaningful dialogue on the balance between local and national interests related to UAS integration and to provide actionable information to the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) on expanded and universal integration of UAS into the National Airspace System. It will also help the USDOT and FAA craft new enabling rules that allow more complex low-altitude UAS operations

PSO is an operating organization of American Electric Power Company, the largest builder, owner, and operator of transmission lines in the U.S. AEP uses innovative technology to help ensure continued efficiency and reliability of the energy grid, which ultimately benefits customers for PSO and its other operating organizations.

The team will continue to evaluate the feasibility of extending this testing into other parts of Oklahoma, as well as in the other ten states where American Electric Power operates.

  • TIL is Pioneering UAV for Agriculture and Energy
Pioneering UAV operations and testing for agriculture and energy, Tulsa Innovation Labs is creating programs to make Tulsa the nation’s most inclusive tech community. An initial $50M has been committed to catalyze growth across 5 interconnected areas....

  • Recognizing that the jobs of the future are rooted in a thriving innovation economy, Tulsa Innovation Labs LLC (TIL) was founded to develop a city-wide strategy that positions Tulsa as a tech hub and leader in the future of work.

Through a diverse coalition of public and private partners, led by George Kaiser Family Foundation (GKFF), TIL is creating economic development programs that seek to make Tulsa the nation’s most inclusive tech community.

We focus our efforts on five specific areas:

    2 Cross-Industry Enablers: Cyber, Analytics

Drone Operations & Testing for Energy and Agriculture

The market for drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), is projected to see strong growth in the near future. By 2024, around half of the market will be commercial and consumer applications, and we are already seeing adoption occur in the energy and agriculture industries.

    Example Innovations

    • Drone Sensors
    • Micro-ATC
    • Ground Penetrating Radar

    Why Tulsa

Tulsa is home to many large energy companies and has easy access to nearby farmland, making it uniquely suited for testing and researching innovative drone applications and infrastructure.
