Profile

Kraettli L. Epperson is the CEO of Vigilant Aerospace Systems, Inc. Mr. Epperson has a 25-year career as a technology company executive and is a frequent speaker at major UAS and AAM industry conferences addressing topics such as flight safety, detect-and-avoid systems, airspace management and autonomy. Mr. Epperson oversees the company’s contracts with the US Air Force, the FAA and NASA, serves as a member of the FAA-39’s Aviation Rulemaking Committee for Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight UAS rules beginning in 2021, is advisory committee co-chair of the SBA’s UAS Cluster Initiative and is a member of ASTM and RTCA to develop technical standards for UAS. Mr. Epperson is the co-author of multiple AIAA papers with NASA and Oklahoma State University including a 2020 paper on use of detect-and-avoid systems in beyond visual line-of-sight flight. He is an FAA certified Part 107 remote pilot and has supervised more than 40 flight tests of UAS safety systems including with NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center and Oklahoma State University. He is the co-inventor of four technology patents.
