  • Calex Manufacturing Company, Inc. announces the launch of the BCA (48S12.3K0BCA), a 3kW Bi-Directional non-isolated DC/DC converter. The BCA is compact and light-weight, weighing only 2.86 pounds, and features a low-profile design with dimensions measuring 8.67 x 6.14 x 1.01”. The ruggedized design boasts an efficiency of 97%, one of the highest power densities in the industry. The packaging and thermal design makes the converter ideal for harsh shock and vibration requirements, as well as easy integration with a battery pack. Standard Hybrid Electric Vehicle architecture typically requires the use of two independent batteries at different voltages, and Calex created the 3kW Bi-directional DC/DC converter in response to these requirements. The BCA charges a low side (12V) battery during normal operation (buck mode) and charges or assists the high voltage (48V) battery in emergency situations (boost mode). In the event that the 48V battery requires charging while in the boost mode, the unit enters into pre-charge mode. The BCA’s features include a disconnect switch based on a back to-back MOSFET configuration for the low side (12V battery), reverse voltage protection, short circuit protection, as well as low standby current for the low side. The baseplate of the enclosure allows for ease of mounting to a chill plate or chassis. The operational baseplate temperature range of the BCA is -40?C to 100?C. The BCA uses a Controller Area Network (CAN) 2.0B interface for complete control of the converter, as well as monitoring the LS current and the internal temperature. Additionally, the BCA uses a high speed CAN-Transceiver for communication with the microcontroller. “The BCA provides a complete solution for in-vehicle power distribution in 48V/12V battery configurations, making this an outstanding choice for OEM vehicle electrical systems,” says Michael McNally, director of product marketing at Calex Manufacturing.   • Calex Manufacturing Company, Inc. announces the release of the 24S53.19FXW DC-DC converter. Ideal for battery connect applications, the converter meets the most stringent performance standards for transportation, industrial, and process control applications. This model represents the final product in Calex’s FXW series of DC-DC converters, exhibiting unparalleled power density of 181W/in³ over a 9-36 VDC input range in a ruggedized full brick package that delivers 1000-Watts of output power. The 24S53.19FXW boasts high efficiency and power density by incorporating advanced digitally controlled synchronous rectification technology and case construction that optimizes thermal performance. With a footprint of 2.5 x 4.7 x 0.52 inches, the converter operates at a fixed frequency of 200 kHz and a temperature range of -40 ⁰C to +105 ⁰C. Additionally, the converter can deliver full output power without derating up to 90 ⁰C. Heatsink options are available for extended temperature use. All models in the 1000-Watt FXW series feature a 4:1 input voltage range; output voltages of 12, 24, 28, 48 and 53 VDC; remote ON/OFF; remote sense and TRIM that allows users to adjust the output voltage +10% to -40%. Mindful of battery powered applications, an ON/OFF function is available to minimize the current draw from the batteries when the converter is in the off state. All FXW models are protected by over current, short circuit and over temperature protection. The FXW series is UL60950 approved.   • The HVQ Series is offered with a fixed 12V output voltage and up to 25 Amps continuous. The HVQ operates over an input voltage range of 250-420Vdc with full rated power. This DC-DC converter will provide 300 watts of continuous power at 60°C with airflow of 200 LFM. The LLC Resonant topology yields an excellent efficiency of 95%. The HVQ series achieve impressive mechanical and environmental specs while delivering excellent electrical performance in an industry standard through-hole package. The unit is fully protected against input under voltage, input overvoltage, output overcurrent, and short circuit. An On/Off control input enables phased startup and shutdown in multi-bus applications. The HVQ provides 4242Vdc Reinforced isolation from input to output, adequate to deliver a SELV output under single fault conditions. Applications include 350Vdc battery systems, such as those used in Electric Vehicle applications.

  • The CEV’s ruggedized packaging and thermal design make the AC-DC charger one of the most resilient on the market. The series can be used as either an external charging source or installed on board a li-ion battery operated application. The CEV Series was designed to withstand extreme weather conditions and is an ideal product for use in harsh shock and vibration environments. The charger also can be easily integrated with a battery pack. The CEV series design includes a universal AC input with an active PFC, which enables the charger to reach a peak efficiency of 95%. The series offers chargers for both 24V and 48V li-ion battery systems, making them ideal for applications such as e-mobility, electric scooters, and electric utility carts. The charger is housed in an air-cooled ruggedized Ingress Protection 67 (IP67) rated enclosure. The overall enclosure is fabricated from an extruded aluminum case that the power module is inserted into and sealed using a thermally conductive material. The IP67 rating ensures that the charger can remain installed during operation of the application without concerns of rain, water-splash, mud, or dust infiltration.
