Description

With increasing customer demands for shorter delivery times, reduced costs, and decreased environmental impact, innovators are driving a revolution for logistics and delivery. In this workshop, we will hear from experts representing the various stages of a shipment’s journey.

Learning Objectives:

  • Evaluate the current and evolving status of autonomous technologies in delivery and logistics
  • Understand the regulatory requirements to launch autonomous trucks commercially
  • Assess the obstacles to last-mile delivery for improved investment and decision-making at the operational level

Agenda:

  • Opening Remarks: Jeffrey Vincent - Executive Director, UAS Integration Office, FAA
  • Panel: Transitioning into the Future State - Are we there yet?: As our industry eagerly anticipates the arrival of scaled operations, panelists will address the reality of the situation. This discussion will highlight the commercial use cases, address concerns with sustainability, and illustrate how organizations are working within the existing regulatory structure to fit into the NAS.
  • Presentation: Deploying Autonomous Truck Technology Today: A future with autonomous trucks is not far from the imagination. It is the logical next step. In fact, with the number of demos and self-driving test vehicles on the road today, many consumers mistakenly believe that autonomous trucks are already on the market. The fact is that all autonomous trucks on the road today are supervised by safety drivers, and therefore are not fully autonomous. There are, however, ADAS products already on the market. Is the future of autonomy an evolutionary path from ADAS? Or will it leapfrog straight to Level 4 autonomy? What are the regulatory requirements to launch autonomous trucks commercially across the U.S.? Should the U.S. government consider mandating ADAS technology for semi-trucks as a step to improve the safety of our highways?
  • Panel: Delivering More than Convenience: As organizations tirelessly work to better serve consumers, technologists and regulators have been paving the way to scale last-mile delivery by autonomous and robotic systems for years. With a lot of questions surrounding the timing and future of last-mile delivery, industry stakeholders will address emerging trends and obstacles.
