Profile
Bryan Zelley, a Lead Applied Cybersecurity Engineer for The MITRE Corporation, has defended critical systems from cyber threats for over 25 years. His experience spans federal, military, and aviation infrastructures. He currently focuses on U.S. leadership for 5G and semiconductor technologies, and UAS cybersecurity standards for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Bryan’s contributions to aviation include applying cybersecurity to navigation and surveillance system development, aircraft avionics, ADS-B, terminal and long-range radar modernization, data communications, and voice modernization under the FAA’s NextGen program.
He has supported the warfighter by applying leading edge cybersecurity technology to Air Force networks worldwide. He has protected networks from advanced persistent threats, ensured new systems have adequate cybersecurity requirements before acquisition, and developed secure solutions to protect legacy equipment from new threats.
In 2014-2016, Bryan led an innovative research project to define cybersecurity threats and defenses for electronic flight bags, the portable electronics that pilots routinely use aboard aircraft to assist aircraft operations. That research helped ensure mission assurance and inform federal guidance currently used by scheduled air carriers and crews throughout the country.
In 2020-2021, Bryan served as a Brooking LEGIS Congressional Senior Fellow for U.S. Senator Mark Warner (D-Virginia), concentrating on cybersecurity, technology, and national security policies.
He currently focuses on 5G and semiconductor technologies, in addition to UAS cybersecurity standards development for the U.S. DHS.
