Description

The proposed panel will include a moderator and technical representatives from NASA, and at least two panel members from industry, to discuss the unique challenges of implementing AI/ML for aviation purposes. The panel will highlight a proposed classification scheme that considers functional criticality and computational complexity for implementing specific functions, whether they are "control", "decision-making", or "perception" functions. The panel will also touch on architectural and design aspects important to the safe use of AI/ML to bound expected behavior and to assist in classifying risk. The panel will also explore the idea of creating standardized AI/ML aviation data services and applications. As AI/ML applications start maturing, the aviation industry needs to shift from “bespoke” development efforts to enterprise wide “AI factory” approach to reap maximum benefits and economies of scale. This session will outline and discuss how digital natives and disruptors are using an “AI factory” approach.
