This presentation will discuss the current status, technology and implementation of integrated automatic detect-and-avoid and drone safety systems that are a critical component in the blueprint for autonomy. The future of autonomous UAS, including safe beyond visual line of sight flight, depend on the use of a wide variety of sensors and data sources to create an integrated and comprehensive safety picture that is multi-layered, responsive and effective. This is a need that crosses all markets and missions and all types of UAS.
This presentation will discuss how several critical technologies fit together to form these safety systems, discuss emerging technologies and products currently being used and provide a review of practical field testing and demonstrations of an integrated autonomous safety system for the FAA, commercial UAS operators and military operators.
This discussion will especially include review of how automatic DAA can be integrated to uncrewed traffic management (UTM) systems, how shared sensor and data resources can be utilized through a supplemental data service provider (SDSP) and then integrated with end-user-controlled sensors, like a portable radar or ADS-B receiver.
